Now our new preium PLA silk filament is made in USA, shinner surface finish and more color choices.

Please note, silk filament, in general, has weaker layer adhesion because of the additive that makes it shiny. It needs to be printed at higher temperature (around 220-230°C), slower speed and less part cooling. Increasing extrusion multiplier and infill/perimeters overlap also helps. However, even with these additional measures, silk filament is still better for aesthetic parts, instead of structural parts.

Spun Honey

This is my first spool of silk PLA ever, and I had no issues printing with it right out of the box. The shine and luster are impressive, but I wouldn’t call it gold. To me, gold makes me think of jewelry. This is more like spun honey, or gold silk bed sheets, and I’m absolutely not complaining; it’s one of the few filaments I own that really feels special.

I printed cubes of this material from 1 to 4 perimeters to check for color differences, and found that only 2 perimeters are needed for maximum color. Printing cubes at 200 to 215 (in increments of 5°C) revealed no color difference by temperature.

Here are the settings that worked for me:
Nozzle Temperature: 200C
Bed Temperature: 60C
Layer Height: 0.2mm
Print Speed: 50-65mm/s
Retraction Distance: 0.4mm
Retraction Speed: 60mm/s

Note: having a smaller retraction distance really helps to avoid jamming with this filament.

Excellent Filament!

This is so far the best filament I've come across. Tried cheap brands and premium brands but ZYLTech works better than most and you can't beat the price. Don't need to look any further!
